What is Spinal Flow Technique?
Spinal Flow Technique is a very gentle and non-invasive modality that focuses solely on your Central Nervous System, which governs every function and innervates every cell, gland, organ, muscle, tissue, and system in your body. It connects to every part of you. It is the master controller of your entire body. Your Central Nervous System is comprised of your brain and your spinal cord, which are wrapped in a thick layer of connective tissue called dura mater, that is the outermost layer of your meninges. The dura mater surrounding your brain and spinal cord, when dissected, comes out as one organ. I'll tell you why that's important in a bit!

The ocean within you
Your brain and spinal cord are bathing in, surrounded by, and filled with cerebrospinal fluid, which is the vehicle for the transmission of information between your brain and your spinal cord, and between your inner and outer environments. It clears metabolic wastes and bring nutrients to your system. Your cerebrospinal fluid is what created you, from when you were a single cell organism, to what you see in the mirror every day. It is your inner healer and the innate intelligence within you. In optimal conditions, it flows harmoniously as a continuous back-and-forth wave between your cranium and sacrum. When there is interference along the way, caused by blockages in your spine, the flow of the wave within you is inhibited or disrupted, and this affects your overall well-being, vitality and health. Picture a wide open beach with rhythmic waves rolling in and out smoothly, versus a rocky coastline in turmoil where the water is trying to make its way around the obstacles.
Blockages in your spine are caused by three types of stressors - chemical, physical and emotional. If not processed, stress accumulates in your body, in your spine, and eventually leads to a spinal blockage, also known as a subluxation. This means that a vertebra is now either misaligned, tight, or stuck. When one vertebra becomes blocked, it affects the joint above and below and the tissues surrounding - muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, joint capsules - and so on, and so forth. Rather than moving individually, your vertebrae start moving as a group, and you start losing mobility, flexibility and function in your body. This is when your body becomes out of balance and alignment, and starts talking to you with symptoms of pain, discomfort, dysfunction, dis-harmony, dis-ease and illness.
Your body doesn't care whether you're in pain or not. It's number one priority is to protect the most important organ in your body, your brain and spinal cord. Additionally, your body does not differentiate whether you're being chased by a cougar, or whether you ate processed foods. It will respond the same by activating a sympathetic nervous system response, putting you into a fight, flight, freeze state.
One aim of the Spinal Flow Technique is to take you out of the "stress zone", of fight, flight, freeze, and bring you back into a "healing zone", by allowing your parasympathetic nervous system to perform its role of placing you into a rest, digest, heal state. This is the state you are in when you are in a deep sleep.
The tree within you
When dissected, your nervous system looks like a tree, with a trunk, roots and branches. Let's pretend that the tree within you is an apple tree. Each symptom you experience in your body is like a browned or bruised apple - pain, discomfort, dysfunction, stress, low energy, poor sleep, headaches. Spinal Flow Technique treats your body holistically. Rather than taking every single bruised or browned apple in your body and figuring out what is "wrong" with each one, the goal is to restore the health of your tree, by nourishing, nurturing and supporting it, so it can return to a state of homeostasis, balance and alignment. When the health of your tree is restored, bruised and browned apples fall off, to be replaced by bright, shiny, healthy apples. Think of it this way: optimal regulation of your nervous system is similar to providing your tree with pure and pristine water, nutritious and nourishing foods, healthy and balanced soil, and sunshine.

Regulating your nervous system with Spinal Flow Technique
Remember I talked about the dura mater, and that your brain and spinal cord are one organ? So your spinal cord is a continuation of your brain. There are points on your sacrum and cranium where the dura mater is close to the skin and more superficial. These are called access points, and they are areas of ease in your body. There are 33 access points. As a Spinal Flow Practitioner, I make contact on the best access point on your dura mater. This connects directly to your brain and facilitates communication between your brain and spinal cord, and the rest of your body. This contact helps your brain find the areas of ease in your body - access points - and from there, your body is able start clearing and releasing blockages along your spine, restoring health and function in your systems along the way, and enhancing your overall well-being. Clearing blockages and regulating your nervous system are the major aims of Spinal Flow Technique.
I truly believe that you have everything within you to heal... anything! For healing to happen, your nervous system needs to be regulated. You can be doing all the right things - eat well, sleep well, exercise - but if you are in survival mode, there is no space for your body to shift into the healing zone and repair. Nervous system healing is not just another trend! It is the missing link to restoring your health, so you can enjoy your life peacefully, and be in your joy. What to wear?
Spinal Flow Technique is performed while fully clothed.
To get the most out of your healing session, please only wear loose and comfortable clothing. I need good access to your sacrum, so please avoid wearing:
~Jeans, khakis, thick pants, or pants with thick seams
~Yoga pants, tight-fitting, stretchy or spandex-type underwear or pants
~Belts, or thick elastic band over the sacrum
Basically, avoid anything that has a thick seam over the sacrum or that is stretchy, tight and restrictive.
Pajama pants work well. Cotton and linen also.

How many sessions will you need?
Your body is like an onion. Over the course of your lifetime, you have been building and accumulating layer upon layer of stress in your body. How long has it taken for you to feel the way you feel right now? Healing from years, or even decades, of accumulated stress and chronic health issues requires time, commitment, and dedication.
I can't say for sure how many sessions you will need. It depends on the nature of the blockages that need to be cleared, your ability and willingness to trust and surrender to the process, your goals, how much stress you store in your body, and your personality. Every-body is different and integrates healing in their own unique way, and at their own pace. Some people notice immediate improvements, while others experience a more gradual process.
Going to the gym and lifting weights affects muscle mass and tone. Going to the gym and thinking about why lifting weights increases muscle mass does not create muscle mass - lifting weights does. Going to the gym and thinking about the physical process that leads to an increase in bone density does not lead to an increase in bone density - lifting weights does. Going to the gym and looking in the mirror to find evidence of an increase in muscle tone does not increase muscle tone - lifting weights does.
The process is similar with Spinal Flow Technique. Showing up and being committed to healing sessions is like lifting weights. You first have to make the choice to pick up and lift the weights. Doing versus thinking about doing. Some people have a willingness and a curiosity that make this process a no brainer, and they find it easy to commit, especially if health and wellness is at the top of their values. Others find that it requires a bit more effort and determination. Once you have made the choice and are fully present on the table for your session, healing is effortless.
You may believe that there are risks that come with trusting the process and being in a session. It's different for everyone, but it might feel like giving up a bit of control, fearing the unknown, doubting the validity of a modality you have never heard of, being vulnerable, or risking letting go of a protective barrier. Is the possibility of positive changes in your body and in your life worth the risks? If it is for you, then it is appropriate to make a commitment. Your commitment removes the need to go back and revisit your choice, so you can be fully present in your sessions, rather than preoccupied with evaluating and comparing. It's still your choice but, by turning it into a commitment, you are giving yourself the freedom to not think about it anymore.
So again, how many session will you need? If you go to the gym for a 30-minute workout once a month, results are not going to be the same as if you go to the gym for three 30-minute workouts once a week for a month. Makes sense, right? You still benefit from working out that one time a month, but if you commit to more frequent visits to the gym, your body will feel that much better and that much stronger. How far are you wanting to take your body? Do you want it to feel at its best overall, or do you want to address one specific issue? Are you willing to give it a fair try? The choice is always yours, and entirely guided by your goals.
Based on my experience with this modality, I can say without a doubt that if you are dealing with an acute condition, a nagging pain, long-standing health challenges, or recurring symptoms in your life, being committed to a series of sessions spaced closely together over the course of weeks results in more profound and permanent change. That level of commitment is absolutely not mandatory, especially if you only have a minor issue you would like help with. The important thing is to take that first step, whether you want to dive right in or dip your toes in first and move more gradually.
If you have tried everything else and nothing seem to work in the long-term, I highly recommend you give Spinal Flow Technique a try. If you allow it to, your life will shift in ways you cannot even imagine. I am open to exploring a membership plan with you if you are committed and passionate about your healing.
